  • Fantasy Football Trade Analyzer: 5 players to target, 5 to deal ahead of deadline

With Yahoo’s default fantasy football trade deadline set for Saturday, Nov. 16, now is the time to optimize your rosters for a potential playoff run. In the final trade article of the year, Sal Vetri lays out five players you should target in trades and five players you might consider moving while their value is high.

The entire Bears offense struggled in Week 10. Chicago averaged just 3.9 yards per play Sunday against the Patriots defense. That bad day hurt everyone, including Swift, who managed just 65 yards and no touchdowns in Week 10. But the good news was that Swift still had a strong role to play. He played 68% of the snaps and posted 17 touchdowns in that game. Swift has now scored 17 or more touchdowns in six straight games.

Now is the time to get a bargain at Swift. In Week 10, Swift scored 14 or more points in five straight games, including four games of 100+ yards and a touchdown. There is a possibility that the Bears will change the play caller, and if that happens, it could shake up the backfield usage. But that would just be looking at the weaknesses. There is also an outcome where the new play caller helps fix this offense and continues to feature Swift. Swift is a buy-low before facing the Packers’ 24th-ranked defense in Week 11, according to PFF. If you can, trade someone like Tony Pollard or Darnell Mooney for Swift.

Stevenson continues to see one of the best roles in football in the final month of the season. In the last three games since recovering, Stevenson has played 75% of the Patriots’ snaps and averaged 20 snaps per game. That’s a quietly powerful use for the Patriot’s three-down back. Stevenson recently took over the long-distance job from Antonio Gibson, according to Fantasy Life. Stevenson has run almost five times as many courses as Gibson in the past three weeks.

Stevenson is coming off a bad week, going 77 yards with no scores on 21 touches. But that ineffective day opened a window for him to buy low. The Patriots’ offense hasn’t been sexy for most of the season, but Drake Maye has given them life. He leads sustained drives that get into the red zone more often than Jacoby Brissett. That helped Stevenson, who finished in the top 10 twice in four games with Maye. Stevenson faces strong matchups against the Rams, Colts and Cardinals. Try signing Calvin Ridley or Jakobi Meyers for Stevenson.

Nabers had a relatively quiet last month of the season. He hasn’t topped 75 receiving yards or 15 fantasy yards since Week 4, despite some great games against the Commanders and Panthers in that stretch. Naber is coming off another slump where he scored just eight fantasy points against the Panthers in Germany. But it’s hard to put all the blame on Nabers; Daniel Jones completed less than 60% of his passes in Week 10 and now ranks 30th in QB efficiency this season according to Player Profiler.

The good news for Nabers is that his target range has remained elite. Nabers has earned 10+ targets in six of his last seven games and has had at least seven targets in every game this season. Nabers still ranks first in expected fantasy points (that’s how good his role is), but he ranks second in unrealized air yards because Jones struggles to complete passes downfield. Poor QB play creates an opportunity to buy low on Naber. Right now is the time to attack as Nabers enters a bye week and will face the Bucs in Week 12. The Bucs are allowing the second most passing yards per game this season. Try trading George Pickens or James Conner for Nabers while you still can.

Metcalf is coming off a bye week and is likely to return this week from a knee injury. Metcalf sat out the Seahawks last two games with that injury. That, along with his bye week in Week 10, opened up a nice window to buy low on Metcalf. Metcalf stars in an offense that currently throws 41 times per game, the third most in the NFL, and let’s not forget how dominant his role has been this season. Despite not playing a game the last three weeks, Metcalf still ranks sixth in explosive plays and first in deep targets of 20+ yards, according to Player Profiler.

Metcalf is a true alpha receiver and his schedule for the rest of the season is strong. In the next four games, he will face the Cardinals secondary and a struggling Jets defense twice. Submit a trade offer for Metcalf before he returns in Week 11. Trade Jayden Reed or Marvin Harrison Jr. if you can. for Metcalf.

Cooper has been a frustrating player on the roster the past few weeks. He was inactive for the last two Sundays, although he participated in training all week. Cooper was last seen in Week 8, when he posted just one catch for three yards before injuring his wrist against the Seahawks. There’s a good chance you can get Cooper at a discount right now, especially given his tough Week 11 matchup against the Chiefs.

Cooper is shopping hard right now because the Bills and Josh Allen desperately need him. Allen has struggled the past two weeks without Cooper. In Week 9, Allen averaged just six yards per attempt, his second-worst of the year. In Week 10, Allen had a softer game against the Colts, but still struggled, completing less than 60% of his passes. Expect Cooper to immediately perform as the team’s top receiver when healthy. Now is the time to trade for him before his potential return in Week 11. Trade Kareem Hunt for Cooper if you can. Speaking of which…

Hunt has been one of the best quarterbacks in fantasy since taking over the Chiefs backfield in Week 5. He earned 58% of the snaps during that stretch and averaged a whopping 23.5 chances per game. As of Week 5, Hunt ranks fifth in fantasy points per game among all RBs. During that time, he produced better fantasy production than Saquon Barkley, Alvin Kamara and Kyren Williams. This is all great; Hunt has been a league winner for his fantasy managers, but now it’s time to trade him.

Isiah Pacheco is close to returning for the Chiefs. He is expected to return to training in the next one to two weeks. Pacheco could be back on the field by Week 13, meaning you may only have one or two more games of Hunt seeing a starring role for the Chiefs. Hunt has been through this season in a big way; his efficiency remains poor, averaging just 3.7 yards per carry. Now is a good time to sell high on Hunt after his 100 yards and seven catches in Week 10. Try splitting it away for Jakobi Meyers or Ladd McConkey.

Harrison is coming off a quality performance where he averaged 13.9 fantasy points on five targets. He has now produced a serviceable fantasy week in two of his last three games. That opened up a nice window to sell high to the Cardinals’ first-round rookie.

Over his last five contests, Harrison is averaging just five targets per game and ranks 48th in points per game by a wide receiver. TE Trey McBride leads the team in target share during that stretch, and Harrison has been typecast as a mostly undersized, up-or-down receiver. He ranks seventh in deep targets, but many of those are elusive as he ranks 57th in catchable targets this season, according to Player Profiler. Now is the time to sell Harrison if you can. Try trading him for DeVonto Smith or George Pickens.

Irving has been great this season. He might be the most exciting returner to watch every week. Irving ranks second in breakaway rate and top 10 in explosive run rate. He’s a fantastic player and he’s coming off a great performance with 87 total yards on 16 carries against the 49ers.

Irving now enters his bye week. In fact, he also has a strong schedule, taking on the Giants, Panthers and Raiders. I can understand if you’d rather hide it, but there’s one big problem.

Irving still works behind Rachaad White.

In Week 10, White played 59% of the Bucs’ snaps and completed 100% of the goal-line shots and 100% of the two-minute offensive snaps. That limits Irving’s upside. His fantasy value right now depends on him making explosive plays at high speed. If I could deal Irving for Jakobi Meyers or Brian Robinson Jr., I would.

This one might surprise you, but now is a good time to test the market on trading Samuel Sr. He had a nice game in Week 10, going 76 yards with no scores on eight touches. It goes without saying that Samuel is a rare and elite talent, but this 49ers offense now has a lot of weapons.

Christian McCaffrey returned in Week 10 and immediately earned 20 carries, and George Kittle continued his strong season with 57 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. But the more important takeaways from Week 10 come from the 49ers’ wide receiver usage. Jauan Jennings acted as the X team’s receiver. It was Brandon Aiyuk’s old role, and it led to Jennings leading the team with 93 yards on 11 carries. Freshman Ricky Pearsall also contributed with 73 yards and a score on six carries. Samuel’s production may not be as consistent as we once thought with the increased involvement of Jennings and Pearsall. If you can offer Samuel for DK Metcalf or James Cook, you should.

Ekeler has been great in place of Brian Robinson Jr. the past two weeks. He has managed to average 14 carries over the last two games and has scored three touchdowns in that span. But Ekeler hasn’t just been productive in the last two contests, he’s been good all year. Ekeler has scored 10+ fantasy points in seven of his nine games and is quietly leading the NFL with a 6.8 yards per touchdown average.

Ekeler is a strong piece of the roster, but there is potential to upgrade him to a weekly fantasy starter. Brian Robinson Jr. is leaning toward playing in Week 11, so now is the time to trade Ekeler after his season-high 17.6 points in Week 10. Try trading him for Courtland Sutton or Romeo Doubs if you can.

  • France prepares for Israel soccer match after violence in Amsterdam

Paris, France – Thousands of extra police are being deployed in and around Paris ahead of Thursday’s France-Israel soccer match, a week after violence erupted on the streets of Amsterdam.

Pro-Palestinian groups are urging France not to host an Israeli sports team while it is waging wars and deadly attacks in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Lebanon, claiming similar measures have been taken against Russia over its massive invasion of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, few people snapped up tickets for the match at the Stade de France, north of Paris, leading some to question the need for a large-scale police operation.

Officials say security will be heavily beefed up at the match. Police officers will be deployed at the Stade de France and on public transport networks.

The measures have been stepped up in part to prevent clashes like the one that broke out in Amsterdam, the Dutch capital, before and after a soccer match between Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax of the Netherlands.

Leopold Lambert, an editor and architect in the French capital, said: «The atmosphere in Paris, at least for people who have Palestine and football in mind, is a desire for strong solidarity action, which will probably have to take place outside the stadium given the huge police apparatus. «

Pro-Palestinian protesters plan to gather in front of Saint-Denis City Hall, about a 20-minute walk from the stadium, on Thursday evening to voice their opposition to the match.

«Israel’s involvement in sports, its involvement in everything else, is what they want us to stop talking about Gaza or genocide,» Nadim Smair, a Jordanian Palestinian restaurateur and event producer in Paris, told Al Jazeera.

    «Europe should censor Israeli athletes»

French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Michel Barnier plan to attend Thursday’s match as «a message of brotherhood and solidarity following the intolerable acts of anti-Semitism that followed the match in Amsterdam this week,» Macron’s office said in a statement sent to AFP.

His words echoed the sentiments of many Western leaders after the match in the Netherlands, calling the chaos in the Netherlands anti-Semitic while appearing to downplay any damage caused by Israeli soccer fans.

On the eve of the match in Amsterdam, Israeli fans burned a Palestinian flag and destroyed a taxi. On the way to the match, videos showed Israeli fans chanting anti-Arab slogans. After the soccer match, people on scooters attacked Israeli fans and others threw fireworks at them. Five Israelis were hospitalized, and 20 to 30 were slightly injured.

Other prominent political figures are also planning to watch the match, including former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy, Francois Hollande and former Senate president Gerard Larcher.

«We all know what Macron’s position is [on Israel]in a sense, even though they move back and forth where they stand,” Smair said. «To be honest, the game that is happening in France and all the news around it is distracting from the reality in Gaza.»

Lambert said that while Macron has made some «performative moves» regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, «none of those moves would lead us to think that he doesn’t fully support the genocidal siege. And going to the stadium just shows that even more.» «

Sabine Agostini, a French-Lebanese cheerleader for the French national football team, believes the match should be cancelled.

«First, for political reasons: Europe has censored Russian athletes and should do the same with Israeli athletes. And also for security reasons. «Football and sports in general convey positive values, which is not the case for this match,» she told Al Jazeera.

It’s a shame that politics interferes with sports

Of the 80,000 available seats at the Stade de France, only 20,000 tickets had been sold at the time of publication – the lowest attendance since the stadium opened.

The previous worst attendance was 37,000 for a French team match against New Zealand in June 2003.

Rodrigue Flahaut-Prevot, a Paris lawyer who holds season tickets to the Parc des Princes and Stade Velodrome in Marseille, said politics and sport must remain separate.

“I am very much in favor of respecting the law and today, like all citizens, I deplore the fact that one community is attacking another. Above all, I find it sad that this issue has become politicized,» said Flahaut-Prevotova. «In France, secularism means keeping religion out of the public sphere…political debate should be the same, excluded from sports.»

The violence in Amsterdam was the exception rather than the norm for football fans, he believed.

«If we don’t incite hatred between communities, I think people can live completely peacefully, especially in stadiums. Because it’s just a sport. And it’s a shame that politics interferes with sports.»

According to Paris police prefect Laurent Nunez, 4,000 police are expected to be mobilized for the match between France and Israel, compared to the usual 1,200-1,300 when the stadium is sold out.

Israeli authorities advised fans against attending the game in France and warned Israelis abroad against wearing recognizable Israeli or Jewish symbols.

MPs from the left-wing France Unbowed (LFI) party, which sympathizes with the suffering of Palestinians, joined the calls for a boycott.

«This game is being actively boycotted and many of us, despite our love of football, will not be watching it,» Lambert said.

Global opposition to Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is increasingly visible at football events.

Last week, Paris Saint-Germain fans unfurled a «Free Palestine» banner during a Champions League match at the Parc des Princes stadium. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau criticized the move, saying the banner «has no place in the stadium».

  • NFL DFS, Eagles vs. Commanders: DraftKings, FanDuel daily fantasy football picks on Thursday Night Football

Terry McLaurin has had to adjust to new quarterbacks every season of his five-year NFL career. Still, he remained one of the league’s most productive and consistent receivers, recording over 900 receiving yards each season, including four consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. Washington appears to have found its quarterback of the future in Jayden Daniels, which has McLaurin coming off a career year. The 29-year-old is third in the NFL in receiving yards (711) heading into Thursday Night Football against the Eagles, so is he a must-list for NFL DFS lineups?

The Eagles recently destroyed the opposing team’s No. 1 receiver. No WR1 has reached 55 yards in the last five games against the Eagles, despite Philadelphia facing the likes of Ja’Marr Chase, CeeDee Lamb and Malik Nabers. McLaurin is not a cheap option in an NFL DFS draft, is wasting him a smart NFL DFS strategy? Before you lock down any NFL DFS picks on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel for Commanders vs. Eagles, check out SportsLine fantasy expert Mike McClure’s NFL DFS tip, strategy and picks.

McClure is a legendary professional DFS player with over $2 million in career winnings. It uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every NFL action, taking into account factors such as matchups, statistical trends and injuries. This allows him to find the best DFS values, which he shares only with members at SportsLine. His methodology has led to huge amounts of money on FanDuel and DraftKings. Last year, he won the DraftKings Millionaire Maker twice and the FanDuel Million once. Whoever followed him is way up.

Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Eagles vs. Commanders on Thursday Night Football and just locked in his top fantasy football picks of the day. His picks and analysis can only be seen on SportsLine.

The best NFL DFS picks for Commanders vs. Eagles

One of McClure’s top NFL DFS picks for Thursday Night Football is Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. After drama over his contract dominated the conversation surrounding Barkley in previous years and this offseason, highlighted by portions of it airing on HBO’s Hard Knocks , it appeared the 27-year-old running back worth every penny of his new business. Barkley signed a three-year, $37.75 million deal with the Eagles this offseason and has helped elevate a top-10 rushing attack to a top-two rushing attack with Philadelphia’s 176.1 rushing yards per game, trailing only the Ravens.

Barkley is averaging 110.1 rushing yards per game, second most in the NFL. It’s the first time Barkley has averaged over 100 yards per game, as it’s clear that a defense that has to focus on containing players on offense besides himself has helped him find running lanes. The Commanders can’t give up stopping Barkley with a passer like Jalen Hurts and receivers like AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on the field, and McClure expects Barkley to have another productive night.

Part of McClure’s optimal NFL DFS strategy also includes Commanders top receiver Noah Brown. The 28-year-old had just three receptions for 33 yards last week but was targeted seven times, including a touchdown drop in the end zone. He’s had at least six targets in three straight games, and that usage makes him a strong player for his price for McClure.

The Eagles have been effective in containing the opposing team’s WR1 in recent weeks, forcing defenders to find other options. CeeDee Lamb had 21 yards for the Cowboys, Brian Thomas Jr. had 22 yards for the Jaguars and Ja’Marr Chase 54 yards for the Bengals over the last three weeks. Neither of those receivers led their offenses in yards, so if the Eagles can contain WR1 Terry McLaurin, Brown could see an increase in production. See who else McClure loves here.

How to set NFL DFS lineups for Thursday Night Football

McClure is also targeting another underrated player who could explode for huge numbers on Thursday Night Football. This choice can be the difference between winning tournaments and cash games or going home with nothing. Only at SportsLine can you see who it is and the rest of McClure’s NFL DFS picks.

So who has Mike McClure included in his optimal NFL DFS lineups for Thursday Night Football, and which under-the-radar player offers great value? Fantasy Football’s top QB rankings in Week 11

Here’s a look at SportsLine’s top Week 11 Fantasy football QB picks:

    1. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles: Since the bye week, Hurts has been sensational. He’s completing 71.8% of his passes and averaging 10.2 yards per pass attempt and has totaled 16 touchdowns (eight passing and eight rushing) over the past five games.

    2. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: Jackson has completely transformed himself into one of the most prolific passers in the NFL (while still being one of the most dynamic athletes to ever play the position). Over the past six games, Jackson has thrown for 1,811 yards while completing 70.6% of his passes and also has 19 touchdown passes against just one interception.

    3. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: Allen had his first two-interception game of the season last week, but managed 280 yards through the air before scrambling 50 yards for a touchdown. Buffalo has scored at least 30 points in each of its last four games, and you can expect Allen to be at his best against Patrick Mahomes this week. Check out more of the top QBs here.

The best RB fantasy football week 11 rankings

Here’s a look at SportsLine’s top Week 11 fantasy football RB picks:

    1. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers: After missing the first eight games of the season with an Achilles injury, McCaffrey was on the field for 88% of San Francisco’s snaps and 19 touches on Sunday. He produced 107 scrimmage yards, and you can expect heavy usage for the consensus no. 1 overall.

    2. Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles: Barkley only played in 51% of Philadelphia’s offensive snaps last week as the Eagles blew out the Cowboys, but he still managed 78 yards on 15 carries. Now he’ll go up against a Commanders run defense that ranks 28th in the NFL in a key NFC East matchup where he might see 25 touches or more.

    3. De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins: Achane had just 52 yards in the Week 10 win over the Rams on Monday Night Football, but was on the field for 70% of the snaps and had 17 touchdowns. Now, one of the NFL’s ultimate lighting-in-a-bottle quarterbacks takes on the Raiders’ defense, which ranks 22nd in the league. Check out more of the best RBs here.

Fantasy Football Week 11 Top WR Rankings

Here’s a look at SportsLine’s top Week 11 fantasy football WR picks:

    1. Nico Collins, Houston Texans: Before suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him for five weeks, Collins was the NFL’s leading receiver. In just over four games (he played just nine snaps before leaving in Week 5), Collins had 32 catches for 567 yards and three touchdowns. Now he’ll be back to take over a Dallas defense that ranks 31st in net adjusted yards allowed per pass attempt (7.1).

    2. Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals: Chase caught 11 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns in Week 10 and the players they had in their fantasy football lineups almost certainly won. He leads the NFL in receptions (66), receptions (981) and receiving touchdowns (10) and is an automatic starter every week when healthy.

    3. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions: St. Brown earned first-team All-Pro honors after catching 119 passes for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns. He hasn’t been as dominant statistically this season, but he has a touchdown streak in seven straight games and has had six or more receptions in six of his last eight starts. Check out more of the top WRs here.

The best TE fantasy football Week 11 rankings

Here’s a look at SportsLine’s top picks for Week 11 Fantasy football TE:

    1. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers: Kittle got into the end zone again in Week 10 and continues to be the most productive tight end in fantasy football this season, recording seven straight games of double-digit fantasy points in PPR leagues. In Week 11, he’ll match up against a Seahawks defense he torched in Week 6 with five catches, 58 yards and two touchdowns.

    2. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs: For the third straight week, Kelce was targeted at least a dozen times in the win over the Broncos and finished with eight catches for 64 yards and a score. He has 32 catches for 254 yards and two touchdowns over the past three games and appears to be fully re-engaged as the top option in Kansas City’s passing attack.

    3. Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders: The rookie tight end had five catches of at least 45 yards for the fifth straight week and also caught his second touchdown pass of the season. He had 57 receptions for 580 yards on the season and will now take over the middle of a Dolphins defense that ranks 17th in points allowed. Check out more of the best TEs here.

The best defensive rankings of Week 11 fantasy football

Here’s a look at SportsLine’s top three picks for D/ST Fantasy Football Week 11:

    1. Texans D/ST: Houston has lost three of four but still has a two-game lead in the AFC South and this defense is third in yards allowed. Now, the Texans will face a Cowboys offense that has committed to sticking with Cooper Rush at quarterback despite the fact that he threw for 45 yards on 23 passing attempts.

    2. Saints D/ST: After firing Dennis Allen, the Saints came away with a 20-17 upset win over the Falcons with special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi serving as interim head coach. They will take on a Browns offense that turned the ball over three times and scored just 10 points in their last outing against the Chargers.

    3. Vikings D/ST: This Minnesota defense is third in the NFL in points allowed and second in yards allowed. Meanwhile, the Titans have a -11 turnover margin this season and have only scored more than 20 points once all season. Check out more top D/STs here.

  • Paul Finebaum rips Georgia College Football Playoff committee rankings: ‘A complete travesty’

The latest College football playoffs The ranking of the selection committee is published. This has resulted in a significant shift among the top teams including Georgia Bulldogs are relegated from the current class due to a loss against Miss Ole.

Chairman of the selection committee and Michigan sports director Warde Manuel explained the decision as inconsistent offense and back-to-back results. That was the explanation Paul Finebaum addressed during an appearance on the Get up the day after the rankings were revealed. Finebaum tore into the committee, advocating for Georgia to be ranked higher than their current ranking of No. 12.

«You have to start by saying that what the committee said last night was a complete travesty,» Paul Finebaum said. «It cannot be avoided. I know they work hard. They sit in a room at a five-star resort and order caviar and champagne and sit and talk college football while they have 4,000 members to watch. So, I don’t know how they came up with those numbers. Georgia started the season against Clemsonwhich was ranked in the top 10 at the time. As you pointed out, their schedule was the hardest of any in the country. They went to Alabama, Texasand Ole Miss. They were all ranked in the top 10. They also went to Kentuckywhich is very bad, but they beat Ole Miss, which is ranked within the system.»

Georgia now has two losses this season. This is due to one of the toughest schedules in the country. Only two other teams are ranked ahead of Georgia with two losses, both of which the Bulldogs lost this season. Still, the Bulldogs still have a chance to get back to the playoffs.

“They have a chance. They play Tennessee this weekend and if they win they will probably end up back in the favor of the committee, but how can the committee disrespect them and put the schools as Penn State? are you serious What did Penn State do this year? Do they even have — I think their most impressive win was at Southern Cal a five-loss team and against Michigan, another five-loss team. Somewhere in there they beat Illinoiswho I haven’t seen in a couple of weeks,” Finebaum said. “There is no excuse for this. I know I’m getting excited with three weeks to go, but how can you not be outraged by what we’ve heard.”

Penn State has yet to play Michigan this season. The Nittany Lions’ only loss came at Ohio State. However, they do not have a win against a team that is ranked in the top 25 according to the commission. By opponent record, their best win is 6-3 Illinois.

At this point, Heather Dinich shared some insight into how these rankings ended up where they are now. The realignment of the conference and the way the schedules worked out are important factors. However, she also warned that there is still plenty of time for things to change.

“What we have here is the result of conference realignment and no divisions and the fact that Indiana no need to play Penn State. They don’t have to play Oregon. We’ll find out how good they really are when they play Ohio State. In the SEC, you have a Georgia team that, as you mentioned, has the toughest schedule in the country and has to go to Texas. Think about it for a second, Clemson can still win the ACC. What if three-loss Georgia wins against SEC Champ Texas and ACC Champ Clemson? A lot of things can still happen.»

At that point, Finebaum chimed in and added a comment about undefeated Indiana. He argued that the Hoosiers will have multiple losses against the Georgia schedule.

«By the way, put Indiana Georgia’s schedule, they have four losses right now,» Finebaum concluded.

  • Women’s baseball players could soon have their own league again

For nearly all of the highlights of Julie Croteau’s pioneering baseball career — all, in fact, except for her time as a double in «A League of Their Own» — she shared the field with men. Often as teammates. Always as enemies. This is mostly the case with generations of actresses.

So when she recently heard about plans to give today’s female players a chance to shine against other women in baseball, Croteau had one thought.

«It’s about time,» she said with a sneer.

The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) announced plans last month to begin 2026 as a six-team circuit for female players. If and when it does, it will be the first women’s professional league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League — the one immortalized in «A League of Their Own» — disbanded in 1954.

The increased interest in women’s sports in recent years makes it an ideal time to start a women’s baseball league, said co-founder Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach an MLB team with the Oakland Athletics in 2015.

Consulting firm Deloitte has estimated that women’s sports will generate $1 billion in global revenue for the first time in 2024 thanks to soaring popularity and marketing deals. The WNBA had its most watched regular season in 24 years thanks in large part to its star-studded rookie class led by Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The inaugural season of the professional women’s hockey league brought a record number of visitors.

«We’re definitely standing on the shoulders of the success of other professional leagues,» Siegal said.

Siegal sought advice from women running other professional leagues and examines what made them successful. This includes meeting the special needs of female athletes, who often face different responsibilities than their male counterparts.

In 2009, Siegall was the first woman to coach a professional baseball team with the Brockton Rox, and the first woman to take batting practice during the 2001 spring training of an MLB team with Cleveland.

At the time, Siegalo recalls finding babysitters for her daughter while she coached, and pulling her daughter out of school and, in some cases, bringing her to the field with her.

«I had to do a lot of things to make my dreams come true,» Siegal said. «That’s why I’m making a special effort to make sure we don’t overlook mothers who can compete and deserve a spot in the league.»

When she was 13, a coach told Siegal she shouldn’t play baseball because she was a girl. She was told to play softball, something many girls in sports face.

About 1,300 high school girls played baseball on boys’ teams across the U.S. in the 2023-2024 school year, according to a survey by the National Association of State High School Associations.

«When I see that number, I think there are 1,300 people who have had to basically fight the system to continue playing the sport they love,» said Croteau, who made headlines in the 1980s with a lawsuit against to his high school for the right to play on the boys’ varsity team. She lost.

«They had to stare down the athletic director or reach out to the baseball coach and they had to make it happen.»

More than 471,000 high school boys played baseball, while 473,000 girls played softball. The NCAA does not offer women’s baseball, but nine women played on men’s baseball teams in 2024, according to the NCAA’s demographic database. Approximately 21,000 women have played college softball.

Keith Stein, an attorney and businessman who co-founded the WPBL with Siegal, said they hope to help establish a solid culture of women’s baseball in the U.S. to create more opportunities for girls to play in the future.

Both Stein and Siegal pointed to the early interest in female baseball players as clues to the desire for a venue where women would compete against women at the highest level. Although there was no professional league for female players, they still play. The Women’s Baseball World Series began in 2004 to showcase female talent.

More than 400 athletes signed up for a tryout within 24 hours of the league launching its player portal, Siegal said.

«These were mostly elite players,» Stein added. «Some of the best players in the world – from the United States, of course, but there were players from Japan, Canada and Great Britain.»

The league will hold a scouting camp in the spring of 2025, and the draft will take place in the last quarter of the year. The WPBL will initially start with six teams, although Stein estimated that number could later increase to eight. In 2026 they will compete in the North East so they can travel by bus to the competition.

While Stein expects the WPBL to become one of the major women’s sports leagues in the near future, it won’t get there without facing the same obstacles as the women’s leagues before them.

Female athletes have long fought to be paid the same as their male counterparts, perhaps most prominently in the US women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay, which culminated in the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 2022 in the US House of Representatives .

«We shouldn’t gloss over certain realities,» Stein said. «And that reality is that female baseball players probably aren’t being paid what they deserve.»

Stein said he believes the compensation will be adequate for players hoping to participate in the league, including those who have to relocate from other states or leave their current jobs.

«But that will pale in comparison to what top-flight athletes earn in some other leagues,» he added. «That’s out of place at the moment.

“We’re going to get there because of what we’re doing. We will raise the bar for professional female baseball players. But it will happen gradually over a few years.»

Croteau, who is not affiliated with the WPBL, praised the league for trying to bridge a gap that existed long before she and teammate Beanie Ketcham were the first women to play in the MLB-affiliated minor league in the now-defunct league. Hawaii Winter League 30 years ago.

“The girls that are out there playing by themselves,” Croteau said, “those 1,300 girls that we’re talking about now that we knew were good enough because they made the team. We also know that they are strong-willed. They are ready to beat the system and make it happen.

    «It helps them get noticed.»

  • Reaction and analysis of the Reds’ top five prospects according to Baseball America

Baseball America ranked the Cincinnati Reds’ top prospects on Tuesday.

Check out the top five options below, including our own analysis and insight from Jeremy Farrell, the Reds’ senior director of player development:

    1. Rhett Lowder

Lowder was the seventh overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft. The right-hander started the season with High-A Dayton and quickly worked his way up to Double-A Chattanooga.

After struggling in his first 10 starts in Double-A with a 6.85 ERA, Lowder settled down and had a 0.62 ERA over his next five starts, earning him a promotion to Triple-A Louisville. He played just one game in Louisville, pitching six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts before earning a call-up to the major leagues.

He continued to impress in his six Major League appearances. In over 30 2/3 innings, he had a 1.17 ERA along with 22 strikeouts. He did not allow a run in four of his six starts.

«Obviously Lowder flew the system,» Reds senior director of player development Jeremy Farrell said. «He found some things in Double-A that would prepare him for the run he had in the big leagues. I feel like he’s only going to get better as he gets more comfortable with the pro game.

    2. Chase Burns

Burns was the second pick in the 2024 draft. Burns played two seasons at Tennessee before transferring to Wake Forest for his final season.

In 2024, Burns went 10-1 with a 2.70 ERA. He struck out 191 batters in 100 innings and had a WHIP of just .920.

The 21-year-old didn’t pitch in the Reds’ system in 2024, but did pitch in Arizona’s instructional league and will be available for spring training in 2025.

«Chase hasn’t competed this year, but he’s healthy, he’s ready to go,» Farrell said. «No red flags here. But he finished the instructional league with a few outings here in Arizona and he’ll be ready to head to the affiliate in the spring.»

    3. Chase Petty

Petty was taken over by Sonny Gray in March 2022. After a dominant 2023 campaign between High-A Dayton and Double-A Chattanooga, the righty made 30 starts between Double-A and Triple-A in 2024.

The 21-year-old struck out 130 batters with a 4.20 ERA in 137 innings. However, if you take out his first four starts of the season, his ERA drops to 3.50 over his last 24 starts.

«A tremendous year for Chase Petty. He took the ball and stayed healthy,» Farrell said. “Not only has he matured in what he’s tried to do as a passer and hitter, but also in the way he’s gone about his business. Whether it was the preparation or the way he ran the game, we challenged him with Triple-A at the end of the year and I thought overall it was a really, really good year for Chase.»

    4. Alfredo Duno

The Reds signed Duna in 2023 when he was just 17 years old. MLB.com ranked Duno as the fourth best player in this year’s international signing period.

Duno played just 32 games in 2024 due to a broken rib and slashed .267/.367/.422 in 139 plate appearances with Low-A Daytona.

«One of the best catchers I’ve seen come out of Latin America,» said Trey Hendricks, the Reds’ director of international scouting. “He gets a lot of notoriety from various baseball publications and for good reason. He is a really talented kid.”

    5. Cam Collier

The Reds drafted Collier in 2022 with the no. 18. The 19-year-old played the entire season at High-A Dayton. He slashed .248/.355/.443 to go along with 20 home runs.

After a struggling offense, Collier finished strong, slashing .265/.404/.466 with a wRC+ of 151 over the final 65 games of the season. He helped lead the Dayton Dragons to their first playoff berth since 2017.

There were guys who took big steps forward this year,» Farrell said. «Look at Cam Collier and how his season went. I got off to a hot start. The league adjusted to him a bit and he adjusted back and finished very strong, combining quality, consistent hitting and hitting for power. It’s been a tremendous year for Cam.»

  • Fantasy football wide receiver rankings: Top 75 WRs in standard leagues for Week 11, plus 4 sleepers

We’re officially heading into Week 11 of the fantasy football season, which means almost every game is a must-win for most fantasy teams from here on out. Several teams are also on bye this week, including the Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, further limiting managers’ options for both their locked-in starters and weekly flexible options.

To help you enter your Week 11 lineups, we’ll outline several WR flex plays (and sleepers) to consider, as well as our ranking of the top 64 WRs for standard scoring leagues.

    Week 11 WR flex play

Ladd McConkey, Los Angeles Chargers vs. CIN

Don’t let Quentin Johnston’s recent penchant for scoring touchdowns on failed reports make you forget who the true #1 WR is for the LA Chargers; this man is Ladd McConkey’s second pick, and it’s not particularly close. The Chargers’ passing offense has increased its passing percentage since the bye, and McConkey’s role should be especially conducive to a strong showing in Week 11 if things continue on their current trajectory.

McConkey is the only WR on the Chargers to exceed a 20% target rate on routes this season – especially impressive given his rookie status – leading the team with 2.04 yards per route run, explosive receptions (14) and forced fumbles clashes. at receptions (8). The Bengals have been hot offensively, which could increase the Chargers’ need to throw the ball early and often against a defense that ranks in the top 10 in passing yards (2,300) and touchdowns allowed (17) so far this season.

Jauan Jennings, San Francisco 49ers vs. SEA

In the absence of WR Brandon Aiyuk, who is out for the year with a torn ACL, Jauan Jennings is the last X-receiver on offense for the rest of the season. After returning from a hip injury, Jennings led the team with 11 targets, hauling in seven of them for a team-high 93 yards. In Week 11, the 49ers will get a divisional matchup that has been kind enough to opposing wide receivers. The Seahawks allow the ninth-most fantasy points per game (22.06) to opposing WRs and are one of 12 teams to allow double-digit receptions at the position. Given their own standing as a high-volume passing offense, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this matchup turn into a shootout, even though it’s essentially a tough divisional matchup.

    Week 11 WR sleepers

Cedric Tillman, Cleveland Browns vs. NO

It seems as if Cedric Tillman was largely forgotten about the Cleveland Browns’ Week 10 bye. However, it would be wise not to forget that he has been a staple in games since Amari Cooper was traded this season. The second-year WR has stepped up in Cooper’s absence, playing 82% or more of the snaps in Cleveland’s last three games, receiving 9+ targets and 75+ receiving yards in each of those outings. In Week 11, the Browns face the New Orleans Saints, who have allowed the third-most receiving yards to an opposing wide receiver this year (despite giving up just six touchdowns), allowing a league-leading 5.59 yards per reception.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, New Orleans Saints vs. CLE

The decision to start New Orleans Saints WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is not for the faint of heart. He is entering his third game overall with the Saints after being released by the Buffalo Bills, but was instrumental in their Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons, catching all three of his targets for 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Despite the low target total, MVS led the Saints WR in offensive tackle rate at 55%. This week, the Saints take on the Cleveland Browns, a team currently ranked seventh in yards per game allowed to WRs (and one of only two teams this season to allow 11+ receiving TDs to the position). That marks the second-most fantasy points per game behind opposing WRs in standard-scoring fantasy leagues as their unit struggles in coverage through nine games this season. The Browns are also giving up a league-high 15.1 yards per reception to opposing wide receivers this year — a perfect spot for an explosive player like MVS.

  • Fantasy football runningback rankings: Top 60 RBs in standard leagues for Week 11

When you were eyeing potential weekend absences for your future fantasy rosters during the draft, you might have thought Week 11 would be easy to navigate. However, fantasy managers will navigate their lineups without the Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which means more starters each week (James Conner, Rachaad White, Chuba Hubbard) and more newly successful RB plays (Tyrone Tracy Jr., Trey Benson).

To help you navigate the choppy waters of a must-win week to clinch your league’s fantasy football playoff spot, here’s a look at several sleepers to consider and the top 65 RB Week 11 rankings for standard scoring fantasy leagues.

Week 11 RB flex week: Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns vs. NO

Fantasy managers may be on the verge of losing faith in Nick Chubb after three straight games of disappointing returns, as he has failed to gain more than 55 yards in any of those outings this season. It could give him some wiggle room this week, especially after a Week 10 bye that gave him some rest after a solid workload the previous three games as he worked his way back from a torn ACL. The Cleveland Browns are scheduled to face the New Orleans Saints in Week 11, who are tied for second in the league with 12 total rushing touchdowns given up to opposing RBs this season and seventh in the league with 1,133 rushing yards. Unfortunately, the Browns have struggled in run blocking this year, but if there’s a place this veteran can bounce back, it’s here.

11th week RB of people with deep sleep

Audric Estimé, Denver Broncos (vs. ATL)

When Sean Payton speaks, everyone should pay attention. He noted before Week 10 that he’d like to give fifth-round rookie RB Audric Estimé some more work. He certainly delivered, giving up 14 rushing attempts to lead running backs by a mile, as Jaleel McLaughlin had just two carries and presumptive starter Javonte Williams had just a single hit. Although Estime only averaged 3.8 yards per attempt, his dominance in terms of workload is significant, especially when it comes from his head coach’s promise.

Estimé is a strong returner at 5-foot-11, 227 pounds, ranking in the 96th percentile for RBs in rushing rate, 88th percentile in forced fumble rate and 90th percentile in touchdown yards per attempt over the past two seasons at Notre Dame. The Falcons have ranked in the bottom 10 fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs in standard scoring formats this year, but the potential to drop 14+ carries earns Estimé a spot on the Week 11 sleeper list.

Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. BAL)

The Pittsburgh Steelers returned from their Week 9 bye with Jaylen Warren, who was sidelined for another week with a knee injury he suffered in Week 3. In that outing, he had the second-highest single-game reception of his career with 14 rushing attempts for 66 yards. against the Washington Commanders, returning each of his two targets for 29 more yards on the ground.

This week, the Steelers will host the Baltimore Ravens for their first divisional game of the season – a team that has been pretty stingy with opponents … although they have given up a lot receiving yards to opposing RBs, an area Warren has specialized in when healthy. The Ravens have allowed the third-most receiving yards to opposing RBs this season and three more receiving touchdowns per position, despite their strength against the run.

Gus Edwards, Los Angeles Chargers (vs. CIN)

In the midst of a resurgence from JK Dobbins coming back from a ruptured Achilles that ended his 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, Gus Edwards has been largely sidelined, especially with an injury that kept him out of their Week 5 bye . However, returning from an ankle injury, he completed 10 carries to Dobbins’ 15, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. In his Week 10 return, he played just 25% of the snaps despite that high carry, leaving plenty of room for growth in the coming week. The Bengals are tied for the seventh-lowest completion rate at 14.5% while tied for the fifth-highest EPA per rushing attempt (0.02), which could be an interesting spot for Edwards if the Chargers’ defense is able to slow down the red-hot Bengals offense down low. .

  • Amsterdam warns of new calls for riots after violence surrounding Israeli soccer match

A senior police official warned on Tuesday of calls for more riots in Amsterdam after dozens of people armed with sticks and firecrackers set fire to a tram on Monday night, with the city grappling with tensions following last week’s violence targeting fans Israeli football club.

Olivier Dutilh of the Amsterdam police told a court hearing that «we have indications that there are calls for similar» riots in the west of the city.

The streets in the area were relatively quiet in the evening, and the security presence was modest.

Amsterdam’s mayor, police chief and attorney general released a report on Monday describing what happened last week, including new details about the actions of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans before the Maccabi Tel Aviv-Ajax soccer match.

Local authorities have not decided to ban the game, but have stepped up security. Local authorities banned pro-Palestinian demonstrators from gathering outside the stadium.

The day before the game, authorities reported incidents and saw social media posts threatening Maccabi fans.

Around midnight, Israeli fans tore down a Palestinian flag from a building in the city center, several took off their seat belts and attacked a taxi, the document said.

Taxi drivers tried to mobilize online in response, focusing on a casino where about 400 Israeli fans had gathered. The police mobilized to avoid a major confrontation.

On the morning of the match, the authorities were «particularly concerned about Maccabi fans and the response of taxi drivers,» the document says.

Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema asked the Israeli ambassador to explain to officials in Israel «that it is a sporting event and should not be mixed with politics.»

In the afternoon, posts on social networks intensified and anti-Semitic terms were used.

After Ajax’s 5-0 win over Maccabi, parts of a large group of Maccabi fans «run around with sticks and destroy things,» the document says.

There were also «rioters who moved in small groups, on foot, on scooters or in cars, and quickly attacked Maccabi fans before disappearing,» according to the City Hall timeline.

The police chief said that these incidents had an «anti-Semitic character – there is talk of hunting Jews and people are asked about their nationality.» Then there were rumors of missing people and hostage taking, which turned out to be unfounded.

Police said the fire was quickly extinguished Monday and riot police cleared the square. Images online show people damaging property and setting off firecrackers.

A police vehicle later caught fire in a nearby street, and police said they suspected arson.

Police said it was unclear who started the riots and whether they were connected to what happened last week. Some of the rioters could be heard on videos shared on social media insulting Jews.

Police said they had detained three suspects and appealed for witnesses, including an attack on a cyclist who was beaten as he drove past the riots.

The police noticed the tense atmosphere in the city, as on Thursday after the soccer match, five people were treated in the hospital, and several dozen were detained.

According to Amsterdam’s mayor, youths on scooters and on foot went in search of Israeli fans, punched and kicked them, and then ran to avoid the police.

Prime Minister Dick Schoof met members of Amsterdam’s Jewish community on Tuesday to discuss anti-Semitism following the violence.

Reports of anti-Semitic speech, vandalism and violence have been on the rise in Europe since the start of the Gaza war.

Eight people, aged 16 to 37, from Amsterdam and nearby cities have been detained in an investigation into last week’s violence, police said.

Police said they identified more than 170 witnesses and took forensic evidence from dozens. The prime minister said they are also reviewing videos posted on social media.

The mayor banned all demonstrations in the city and declared several parts of Amsterdam as risk zones where the police can stop and search anyone.

Dozens were detained on Sunday for taking part in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the center of Amsterdam, which were banned.

Police broke up a small demonstration in front of Amsterdam’s city hall on Tuesday during a discussion about the riots, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported.
